Inviting Scandal To Dinner

Inviting Scandal To Dinner

The Barack Obama Party Foul … next on the
American Life League Report [Intro] Every year the Al Smith Foundation hosts a
big party … $25,000 a table, in fact … intended to raise money for various Catholic organizations.
And according to tradition, the dinner honors political figures who are given an opportunity
to poke fun at political issues, opponents, or even themselves. Now, if politics today was just about fiscal
policies and basic philosophies of governance, this may be an enjoyable opportunity for political
candidates to cut loose. But that was the politics of yesterday. Today, the very essence
of politics has everything to do with morality. Everything in the American political process
is touched by abortion, contraception, embryonic stem cell research, sex education, homosexuality,
euthanasia, and now, the destruction of religious freedom. So, even though the Al Smith dinner
is meant to be an evening of comedy routines, this is exactly why the invitation of Barack
Obama for the second presidential election cycle in a row is far from funny. Why? Because
no matter how you spin it, this situation has everything to do with the massive scandals
that Barack Obama carries with him wherever he goes. And what is scandal? The Catechism of the
Catholic Church says: [Obama] I think same-sex couples should be
able to get married. [Obama] I am proud to sign a law that will
bring and end to “Don’t Ask. Don’t Tell.” [Obama] When Republicans in Congress threatened
to shut down the government unless we stop funding Planned Parenthood … I had a simple
answer. No. [Obama] I am pro-choice
[Reporter] In all situations, including the late-term thing?
[Obama] I am pro-choice. [Obama] Uh, and I voted … uh … uh … ‘No’
on the par- … uh … on the late-term abortion ban. [Obama] We will lift the ban on federal funding
for promising embryonic stem-cell research. [Obama] There will always be people, many
of goodwill, who do not share my view on the issue of choice. On this fundamental issue
I will not yield, and Planned Parenthood will not yield. People in defense of Obama’s invitation
to the Al Smith dinner like to remind everybody that Jesus dined with publicans and sinners,
but there is a glaring difference. Jesus allowed the publicans and sinners to dine with Him
as a means of bringing them to repentance and to follow Him. He wasn’t hosting a big
party to have a good time. Just imagine the outrage among widows of murdered
police officers if the Chicago police department invited Al Capone to the annual policeman’s
ball, and asked him to give the keynote address. They say that a picture is worth a thousand
words, so, when Catholics saw this picture of Cardinal Egan with Barack Obama at the
2008 Al Smith dinner, the impression given was how much high ranking prelates in the
Church like and accept him. The question now is, will a similar photo-op with Cardinal
Dolan negate a thoughtful statement like Archbishop Lori’s, who said, “Catholics Can’t Vote
for a Candidate who Stands for an Intrinsic Evil.” A national poll of Catholics commissioned
by American life League reveals that 55% of Catholics believe that inviting Obama to keynote
the dinner sends the wrong message. Other poll numbers indicate: 53% of the Catholics believe that Obama’s
invitation to the Al Smith dinner gives the impression that the Catholic Church views
Obama favorably. 50% of Catholics are scandalized by Obama’s
presence at the Al Smith dinner. And nearly 60% of those polled say that inviting
Obama to speak at the Al Smith dinner will influence Catholics to vote for Obama. Sixty … percent. Bear in mind that it was
54% of Catholics voted for Obama in the last election cycle. There are those who claim that the invitation
of presidential candidates to speak at the Al Smith dinner is a tradition, but in 1996,
Cardinal O’Connor refused to invite Bill Clinton because he did not want to give such
a staunchly pro-abortion politician a flattering, church-sponsored platform. In 2004, the same
decision was made regarding self-professed Catholic, and pro-abortion presidential candidate,
John Kerry. With this kind of precedent, it ought to be clear that this isn’t really
about Obama; it’s about putting Obama’s scandal on a pedestal and parading it around. Let’s face it … By inviting Barack Obama
the Al Smith Foundation has literally invited scandal to dinner. Remember, Jesus charged
Peter with feeding His sheep … not the wolves. For American Life League I’m Michael Hichborn.

  • i believe its too late, Dolan has invited both candidates to the "dinner", and both have accepted their invitations…Mr. Smith after all, was a progressive "Catholic", not sure why Protestants opposed him so much, its most likely a matter concerning circumcision, who knew?…
O Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on us.
    Blessed Mother pray for us.
St. Michael defend and protect us.

  • Vice Presidental Canidate Paul Ryan has been rebuked by the Catholic church for his immoral budget, and has said that his number one influence and reason he got into politics was the anti-Catholic Ayn Rand. This video seems to neglect those facts, but after this week President Obama is getting a second term reguardless.

  • The US Conference of Catholic Bishops said his budget was wrong, and Georgetown University's Father Reese has said the budget is unchristian. Ryan began distancing himself from Ayn Rand after he was picked as the VP canidate. He has said that he began his political career because of the antichristian Ayn Rand, and as late as 2009 was quoting her and giving out copies of Atlas Shrugged. President Obama has not attacked the church. Your disingenuous and inconsistant attacks are pathetic.

  • Just to jump in here, Obama attacked the Catholic Churches stance on contraception, marriage and abortion. If someone attacks the beliefs of a religion, they ARE attacking the religion.

  • If you know what the function of the USCCB is then you would know the USCCB doesn't speak for The Catholic Church. If a few bishops or the USCCB website says something, that does not mean, "The Catholic Church says …" Let's get that straight.

  • The Bishops said it was within Prudential Judgement, Ryan is the only real Catholic in the whole bunch. His interest in Rand was of her novels, not her philosophy, he states the novels intrigued him as a young man. That is a very different thing. Obama is the enemy of the Catholic Church he promised the Bishops to give conscience rights in healthcare and turned right around and slapped all believing Catholics in the face with the HHS Mandate, $1/month out of paychecks directly fund abortion.

  • At a time when American embassies are being actually attacked in the Middle East, for you to say that because the President disagrees with you he is "attacking the catholic church" is dispicable and pathetic.

  • That is an outright lie. Ryan said repeatedly that he agreed with Rand's philosophy of Objectivism, and has only changed his tune in the last few months. Since 1976 with the Hyde Amendment no federal money has gone to pay for abortion. Turn off the Fox News and Phil Donahue garbage and lies.

  • "On behalf of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, I write to urge you to resist for moral and human reasons unacceptable cuts to hunger and nutrition programs. The committee has been instructed to reduce agricultural programs by an additional $33.2 billion.

  • In allocating these reductions, the committee should protect essential programs that serve poor and hungry people over subsidies that assist large and relatively well-off agricultural enterprises. Cuts to nutrition programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will hurt hungry children,

  • poor families, vulnerable seniors and workers who cannot find employment. These cuts are unjustified and wrong. If cuts are necessary, the committee should first look towards reducing and targeting commodity and subsidy programs that disproportionately go to large growers and agribusiness"

  • Thanks for the brash judgement. Ouch. Okay I'm over it.
BTW I didn't say he disagrees with me, I said he disagrees, vehemently, and is actively passing legislation to make the Catholic Church turn aside from their religious beliefs. And when the church has, said, quite plainly and repeatedly, "we can't, because it goes against our conscience" he has continued to pushed legislation that basically says "tough beans." His is an ideological attack. We're just trying to argue for Truth.

  • I leave you with this. The year is 2012. 99% of women use birth control. 26 million catholics have fallen away because your church has chosen to prioritize gay marriage, birth control, and abortion. Your church is complete decline, and once the children of latino immigrants fall away from the church you won't exist. You have already painted yourself into a corner of extremism, and have become irrelevant to the half of American catholics who are going to vote for President Obama.

  • 99% of women use birth control, and Sandra Fluke along with millions of other American women now have birth control covered by their health insurance instead of paying for it out of pocket. Explained. I am not pining for the end of the Catholic church. I am just watching it join the Women's Temperance Movement and the Whigs.

  • What kind of a man would vote for a man who so wants men (and women) sterilized that he mandates it to be a free service from the government. In Oregon, the state has decided to offer this wonderful service to 15 years old boys and there is no parental consent required. Why kind of a man would vote for a man with ideas like this?

  • The Church will last another 2000 years or until the end of time because it is not a human institution, it was instituted by the Holy Spirit. It may become very small for a time as Pope Benedict XVI himself said, but it will outlast every empire you see now, just as it has outlasted all the empires of the last 2000 years. Something to contemplate. What was the norm 40 years ago is now called 'extreme' and this is just throwing words around actually, it doesn't mean anything.

  • The Zoroastiran church still exist, and the Chinese Emporer's ruled for five thousand years. The question at hand is whether the Catholic church will still matter in the American body politic after this election. The radical right wing of the Catholic church in the US has become so extreme that people stop going to services. That has been the pattern of the Catholic church in the US for the last 40 years, and will continue to do so more rapidly in the next 10 to 20 years. Welcome to 2012.

  • It (the Catholic Church) will exist till the end of time, it has already existed for 2000 years, and will exist in one form or another, Baptizing, Confirming and Feeding thru the Eucharist, people until Christ comes again. I don't see any lack of attendees at the Mass sometimes there isn't enough room for everyone to fit in the buildings. Just because you donnot like the 2000 year old teachings on sexual morality and Life issues, does not mean you know anything really about the Church.

  • "Radical right wing of the Catholic church" is a typical propagandists statement without reference to fact or reason. Quite the opposite is true–it is the leftist who want to remake the Church into their own image. It is abusers of Vatican II who brought homosexuality and contraception and abortion into the Church. This is what has caused so many to leave thinking the Church has become irrelevant. And it also the liberal extremist is first call everyone else radical.

  • Faithful Catholics are scandalized by this dinner.
Keep up the good work Michael, I'm praying for you.
    God Bless you my friend.

  • I'm catholic, I'm prolife, I don't like Obama (neither Romney) and I agree with the invitation made by Cardinal Dolan. Those who see an scandal just don't understand what Jesus preached and what Pope John Paul II made his hole life: meeting Gorvachov, Fidel Castro…

  • What about love your neighbor? I didn't realize the commandment was "don't talk to your neighbor unless they share your religious views and do not sin".

  • All this will turn to dust someday but the human soul is eternal. Jesus Christ is Eternal. Cling to Him only. All the services I have seen are packed actually and when society starts to collapse more and more people will realize Who to turn to, and that won't be the government. People will soon realize what a European landscape will be without the Church and it won't be a pretty picture.
