Dinner Debates: Love

Everybody need love. Everyone needs love. Everybody need love. Bocconcini, some basil, basil? Basil? Perfect, WiFi off Thanks for coming Thanks for having us Online dating, is it working? You know what I think? I think that’s a massive broad question Making people lazy at dating You used to have to like work at dating You are working By the likes on the photo- No, no! This is too easy! I like ten of your pictures, we’re going on a date They had sat down at the bar they had ordered a drink and the girl took out her phone and started swiping No! My friend was like And the girl was like “No but you- we both know that-” There’s many different reasons of why you’re on an app you know like a dating app and I think we’re more talking about finding a relationship and love which I would say, a high 80% are not looking for that do you know what I mean? They’re looking for- What are you saying? You know they’re looking for a connection. I did meet my wife online No way Yeah and we both swiped right on one another I would say we did have one friend in common and so I do see it as accelerating the real life connect, but nothing beats the in-person thing though when I saw my wife open the door at the restaurant we were waiting it was just electricity It was just like that moment that you just— yeah Get this when I lived and worked in New York I met this cook he actually met his wife in a chat room before Windows 95 Woah! He met her on DOS OMG. What? Like on DOS chat rooms Like F12? OG Because meeting online You know, whether through a common interest group Does fit the old-school mould of meeting people in places That’s your virtual place Well I think that’s why the internet was so exciting at first too because I had this interest in being whatever, a cowboy whatever it is and you can find a thousand people in a second to chat about and learn more about that subject Or people who love bacon, for example because that’s an app There’s farmers too you know Famers Only! -yeah stuff like that Everybody need love So back in my hey day I see a little chick page she went paddle boarding she’s in school this or that so when I hit the conversation I’m lying into it you know what are you doing this weekend, I would like to paddle board do something but I think I’m going to study I’m not even in school but you know what I think I’m going to do some studying and read a couple of books “Oh what books are you reading?” In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day I know how to finesse this conversation and get it going like the cheat sheet The actors are calling you out on your lies [laughter] we are calling out your lies! I’m just saying What would be on everybody else’s dating profile? I think I would have got my mom to write my profile Just to mess it up because we’re looking at being creative I’d be like “mom, go to town” I would love to see what she would write If I had to go back in my single days I would put “what you see is what you get” that would be mine click Nice! I think mine would be just pictures of me like this and then see if my witty rapport- Like six pictures of that and one like normal picture? Or just all six? All six real doozies But then try and win them over with some charm I have to say I put in virtually no effort when it comes to online dating because I’ll be totally honest with you I don’t really believe I’m going to meet my wife- Is that what you lead with? You probably won’t be my wife but- It should be maybe that’s the thing Someone decides like “‘ll show him” prove him wrong Man, online dating… but that’s real Yeah [laughter]
